Cement shingle siding
Shingles come off one at a time, are lowered rather than dropped, and are wrapped for the trip. Breaking them up is exactly what we try to avoid.
Typical cost in Gresham
Gray cement shingles and older roofing can contain asbestos, and a lab result tells you for sure. We take off positive siding and roofing in whole pieces, keep the work area clean, and haul the waste to a landfill permitted for it.
Siding and roofing appear on DEQ’s nonfriable list. A contractor with a Construction Contractors Board (CCB) license can do this work, starting five days after DEQ has the notice and fee. Gresham, Wood Village and Oregon City exteriors are all in our area.

Under some cement shingles there is still wood lap siding. With the shingles gone, you choose whether to repair it, paint it or cover it again.
DEQ’s enclosure rule makes an exception for cement asbestos roofing, so a roof doesn’t need a negative pressure enclosure. It still needs the notice and careful handling.
Metro transfer stations refuse flat or built-up roofing even with negative tests, so plan disposal for it from the start.
Rain makes loose material harder to control, so exterior jobs work best in a dry spell.
If you live in the house and do the work yourself, the outside work is exempt from the DEQ notice only when the home isn’t a rental, isn’t used as a business and isn’t going to be demolished.
